Woah, new blog just dropped??
A bit of backstory: a few years ago, I decided I wanted to make a blog. But then my "DIY is so cool" brain kicked in, and I decided that using something like Jekyl would be too easy, and I had to make my own blog page from scratch(ish)! And, also, that blog page needs to have nice graphics, and feel vaguely vaporwaveish! And, also also, that blog page needs to use Python scripts to generate new posts from markdowns, lest I would never write a post in it! Also also also, I needed to update buckette.gay to be slightly more ~Vaporwave~, whatever that means! And, uh, all of this needed to happen before I wrote a single blog post, because how could I possibly know the boundaries of the format until I did so!
While that sort of scope creep usually means a project idea is dead, it has been two years and now this actually exists (surprisingly) with most of the development having taken place while on the Northeastern Corridor Amtrak line. As mentioned above, I don't have any relevant posts--yet--so I figured it wouldn't be insane of me to make a low effort initial public offering in the form of a silly post and some expectation setting.
This blog is
Going to be contain slightly unpolished posts at all times. If I think I need to make all of my posts for this site perfect or reflective of incredibly deep thinking, I will never post. So, instead, I'm going to not make all of my posts for this site perfect; if you want polish from me, watch me present or read papers I publish.
Going to contain a mixture of silly and nerdy posts. I enjoy doing and talking about research! I also enjoy joking. I will do both in significant quantity.
Going to be updated really infrequently. What, you think someone who took two years of scope creep to create a website is going to update it frequently? Wait, you actually do? That's adorable! Never change.
Broadly, it's best to think about this blog (and buckette.gay more broadly) as more equivalent to a social media page than anything else.
In any case, ashlynn.blog is finally here. Yibbee!!
(P.S.: I also left up the Lorem Ipsum test page. One could argue thsi was because I was lazy. One could more accurately argue this is because any blog looks empty if it doesn't have at least two posts. Both people would be correct).
